This exercise goes beyond what is done in the NYS Reference Tables for Chemistry. By working through these exercises the student should gain the ability to identify or create the various functional groups.
It is not expected that the student will master everything presented in these exercises, but upon completing these exercises the student should have mastery of what is contained in the Reference Tables and be prepared for any Regents-level exam questions. As an extra-credit problem students are asked to create amino acids and to combine them by dehydration synthesis which connects back to something done in Living Environment.
